We’re sure you’re excited about hiring one of our VW campervans and heading off on your own adventure, but we appreciate you may have some questions before you book. Here are answers to a few queries we have been asked over the years – if there’s anything else you’d like to ask, please email us and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

Why do you only have VW Transporter Campervans?

Volkswagen were responsible for the most iconic of all campervans and the modern incarnation – in our case, the T6 Transporter – is a great and versatile vehicle for campervans.

We find them to be reliable and comfortable to drive, with the convenience of not being too big yet with plenty of space inside, especially with the pop-top roof.

What is the minimum and maximum hire period?

We currently offer a minimum of 2 nights at the weekend, and encourage a minimum of 3 nights during the week, but we are flexible and will always try to accommodate bookings to suit your needs.

If you’re looking for longer, then we are happy to take bookings for a maximum of 14-nights.

Is there a limit on mileage?

No – unlike some campervan hire companies, we don’t impose a limit on the distance you cover in one of our vans so you can head off on your adventure without worrying about unexpected excess mileage charges.

Is insurance covered in the booking fee?

All our vehicles have fully comprehensive insurance. However, to qualify for this cover, drivers must meet the following criteria:

  1. All drivers will need to email driving licence(s) plus 2 x proof of address that match the drivers licence(s) before we can release the campervan.
  2. All drivers must have held a full UK licence for a minimum of 24 months unless not from the UK (see countries listed below).
  3. All drivers must be between 23 and 75 years of age.
  4. Drivers can have up to 6 points on their licence (providing they are two separate  minor offences)
  5. Drivers can have no more than one fault or non-fault claim within the previous 5-years.

Our insurance policy will cover drivers with full driving licences from the following countries:
Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

Can we take your campervans abroad?

Yes – we permit our vehicles to be taken into Europe but it is the responsibility of the customer to ensure that their insurance and breakdown / roadside assistance is fully covered.

Given our location on the edge of the Lake District, travelling to Europe is quite a distance so the vast majority of our customers prefer to stay in the UK.

What documentation do I need to provide?

For all nominated drivers of the campervan we require a number of documents and proof of identity to be emailed to us for verification no later than 14 days before the booking commences:

  • Photographs of both the front and back of your driving licence(s)
  • Screenshots of a DVLA Driver Check to show ‘Your Details’, ‘Vehicles You Can Drive’ and ‘Penalties and Disqualifications’
  • 2 x Proof of Address dated within 90 days of the booking commencing
  • A copy of your temporary campervan insurance cover note

Please note: the Proof of Address must match that of the driving licence, otherwise the driving licence will need to be updated before collecting the vehicle.

Is fuel included in the price?

Each campervan will have fuel in the tank when you collect the vehicle. This may not be a full tank and between us we will record the amount of fuel and ask that you return the vehicle with the same level of fuel for the next customer.

We cannot reimburse you for the difference if the vehicle is returned with more fuel than when you collected it.

Is bedding included or do we need to bring our own?

No, bedding is not included so this is something you are required to provide.

A fitted sheet, double or King size duvet and pillows is ideal, whilst some customers prefer to bring sleeping bags.

How reliable are the vans? What happens if we break down?

All our vehicles have UK RAC recovery included in the booking fee.

Mechanical breakdowns are very rare and our VW Transporters are professionally serviced regularly and always maintained to a high standard.

Where do we collect the campervan from?

We are located on the edge of the Lake District near Kendal, within easy reach of Oxenholme Main Line Railway Station and J36 of the M6 Motorway.

Exact details of the location where the van can be collected from (and returned to) will be provided upon confirmation of booking.

To give you an approximate location, we are near to our friends at Lakeland Maze Farm Park.

In some instances, it may be possible for you to collect from (and return the van to)  Oxenholme Railway Station.

We're not sure where to go - are you able to offer suggestions?
